Master Planning in Boston with Department of Play

Boston, MA. Art collective Department of Play reimagines master planning through residents’ lived experiences of Boston. From July 29 – August 6, Andrew Square will host the second of three Department of Play events to transform Bostonians into master planners and collaboratively create alternate universes.

On August 6, a culminating exhibition will be held. (The specific location and time for the final event will be announced via Department of Play’s social media.).

The StoryShip project addresses an important gap in current planning processes. “Personal stories,” said Department of Play cofounder Maria Vidart-Delgado, “are glaringly absent from the redevelopment conversation in Andrew Square. Experiences on the ground are lost, limiting residents’ contributions to the planning conversation.” Last year, after Mayor Marty Walsh announced plans for Imagine Boston 2030, Department of Play advised the City of Boston on cultural planning through the Boston Creates project. This year, Department of Play is helping residents of Greater Boston imagine the city.

Admission is free and the events are meant for all ages.
