Representative Marie St. Fleur, Massachusetts state representative of the 5th District, is inviting all community members to a meeting at the Marshall School (35 Westville Street, Dorchester, MA 02124) on Saturday, December 12, from 10am-noon.

Rep. St. Fleur is convening this meeting to discuss recent incidents, the context, and what can be done to address the dangerous violence in the neighborhoods around the Marshall.

Community Flu Education Certificate Program, Dec 8 & 15

The Boston Public Health Commission is sponsoring a ‘Community Flu Education Certificate Program’ to train formal and informal community leaders to serve as resources for accurate, timely information about seasonal and 2009 H1N1 influenza (Swine Flu).

The next training programs for this Certificate, will be December 8th in Spanish; and December 15th in English. The programs will both be from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, in the Miranda Creamer Building, Room 601, 35 Northampton St., 6th floor. The program is free of charge. >> Read More

Victoria Reggie Kennedy introduces historians Michael Beschloss and Doris Kearns Goodwin who will discuss Senator Kennedy's memoir, True Compass, his role in history and his legacy with political analyst, Mike Barnicle. Mrs. Kennedy will sign copies of True Compass (which will be on sale in the museum store) following the forum.

This special forum is being co-sponsored by the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors to the main hall open one hour before the program begins. Once the main hall is full, seating will be in an overflow theater where the tribute will be streamed live.

Dorchester YMCA's "A Bridge to Success", Dec 3

All are invited to the Dorchester YMCA's 2nd Annual Reach Out Event, "A Bridge to Success". The event will be held on December 3rd, 2009, 6 to 8 pm at Phillips Old Colony House in Dorchester. The purpose is to join old and new friends for appetizers, entertainment, and a silent auction. All monies raised will go towards the Reach Out Annual Campaign, ensuring that Dorchester is able to provide financial assistance to children and families in need, ensuring no one is denied access to our programs and services due to an inability to pay full fees.

Designed as a model of community accessibility, our YMCA provides all area residents with a true community center where they can meet and participate in a wide array of health and wellness, recreational and education activities. The facility boasts a swimming pool, gymnasium, fitness center, dedicated childcare space for preschool and after school program, youth and teen areas and community meeting rooms.

Positive Voices of HIV, Dec 1

World AIDS Day
A speaker living with HIV will discuss their experience living with HIV and the importance of positive prevention. Dr. Jonathan Pincus will be performing Q&A at the Codman Square event, and staff will be on-hand to answer questions. Partner organizations like AIDS Action Committee, MAPS (Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers), and Boston Healthy Start will have informational tables.

The event is sponsored by BPHC and DotWell. The event is open to the public and will include free food and giveaways.

On the evening before the event and the morning of the event, there will be a table set up and staffed at the entrance of the health center to distribute educational information and red ribbons and to encourage attendance at the events at 450 at 11am. >> Read More
