Are you looking for something to break up your work day that
will allow you to give back to your community? The 2008-2009 academic school
year will be here soon and Boston Partners in Education is looking for
volunteers to tutor and mentor Boston
Public School students.
You don’t need any previous tutoring experience to participate—just a
willingness to work with students and help them reach for their highest
potential!

Our volunteers work with one student during the school day
and in some after school and Saturday morning programs for one hour (or more)
each week. Opportunities are available in all grades, K-12, in the areas of
math and literacy. During the application process, we provide training in
mentoring and tutoring, as well as a personal interview and a reference check
to ensure a successful experience.

To register, visit www.bostonpartners.org
and complete the volunteer registration form (click on “For Volunteers” then on
“Registration Form”). For more information, please contact Hillary Chazen,
Recruitment Manager, at (617) 451-6145 or hillary_chazen@bostonpartners.org.

Performances and workshops from 2pm - 6pm
on Boston Common, with As You Like It at 8pm.
Celebrate Shakespeare Day is a free event presented by Citi
Performing Arts Center's Education Department.

Throughout July, community partner organizations in Cambridge,
Dorchester, Jamaica Plain and the South End held workshops
where participants discovered how enjoyable the world of theatre
can be.  Through performing art skills building including theater
games, ensemble building, and original scene development,
participants became familiar with the story line and universal
themes of As You Like It.  On Saturday, August 2nd, representatives
from each neighborhood along with area theatre companies such
as Huntington Theatre, will perform a showcase on the Boston
Common as part of Celebrate Shakespeare Day.

Celebrate Shakespeare Day includes fun for all ages, interests and activity levels.  All are welcome to an afternoon
of free workshops, readings, and interactive games and activities culminating in an evening performance of
Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's As You Like It at 8pm at the Parkman Bandstand. Try your hand at
Shakespearaoke, die your most dramatic death, explore Elizabethan dance, use your best Shakespearean insult,
or simply watch our performances and enjoy a visit to the Town Square.

A Word about Winestein...

Say the words "wine expert" and the average person might think of someone snobbish, like television's Frasier Crane. But Albert Winestein owner Sean Martin, a down-to-earth son of Southie, is a million miles from Frasier and Niles.

The self-proclaimed home of "smart wine, simple cheese," Albert Winestein opened in December 2007. A. W. offers more than 150 different wine labels, along with several domestic and imported craft-brewed beers offered on a rotating basis. The shop also sells several rotating varieties of cheese, as well as fine chocolate bars.

Martin has a refreshing approach to the wine business: "I don't want to make it seem like I know more about wine than everybody else. We're not trying to intimidate anybody." But he does know his stuff, based on years of experience as a bartender, restaurateur, and wine broker (as well as science and phys. ed. teacher and fitness center owner).

Albert Winestein is located at 84 Fairmount Ave. in Hyde Park. They're open Tuesday - Saturday, 4:00 - 9:00 PM - tel. 617-333-6777.
