Next Dorchester No on Question 1 meeting is Friday 9/19 at 9:00 AM
Dorchester community and civic organizations and social service agency leaders are invited to
an organzing meeting on organizing against the Question 1 referendum on
the fall ballot. It will be held Friday September 19 at 9:00 AM at the
Codman Square Health Center, 637 Washington Street.
We will be working on plans to cover polling places on Election Day and possibly a literature drop in Dorchester too.
House signs are available at the campaign office, bumper stickers will
be available in two weeks, and organizations that can put a banner on
their building should contact us and we can get those made and
delivered to you.
We are asking organizations and individuals to consider making
donations which will go toward printing an ad in the Dorchester
Reporter and printing fliers for a Dorchester lit drop. Make donations
payable to "Coalition for Our Communities/No on Q 1" and mail them to
Bill Walczak at Codman Square Health Center, 637 Washington Street,
Dorchester, MA 02124.
Please remember that community organizations, social service agencies
and religious congregations can organize against Question 1 legally
since it's considered the same as taking a position on legislation. It
is not a partisan activity such as backing a candidate.
Question 1, if passed, would eliminate the state income tax which means
a 40% or $12 billion cut in the state budget. This would mean huge
cuts in public safety, health care, education, housing, etc. programs
funded by the state and city budgets. This would mean major cuts in
city budget programs like schools and public safety since cities and
towns get major "Local Aid" grants from the state budget that would
have to be cut severely if Question 1 passes.
