Walk On: The Story of Rosa Parks | Feb 21

Mad River Theater Works returns this year with the exciting and inspirational play, Walk On: The Story of Rosa Parks, during Black History Month. "Walk On" weaves together music and drama to tell the life of Rosa Parks, from her childhood in rural Alabama to her famous decision to "sit down and be counted." The play dispels misconceptions about Parks and her protest as it paints a portrait of a complex woman who had to find reconciliation within herself in order to become an effective Civil Rights leader.

Critical Breakdown | Jan 31

Critical Breakdown brings people of all ages together through Hip-Hop, spoken word, and other forms of socially conscious performance & visual art. Through monthly open mics, Critical Breakdown explores solutions to poverty, oppression, and injustice while giving space for expression, resource sharing, and healing. Overall it is an empowering experience encouraging "Peace-able" behaviors & campaigns.

Critical Breakdown is a program of the community and facilitated by the "Village In Progress" Initiative.

Enjoy a light dinner, shop in our boutique of gently-used baby items, get a professional family photo and hear from other moms, health professionals and a variety of family support agencies on important infant safety and development topics. NEFA's Public Art Discussion Series: Strategies in Community Engagement

What does it take for public artists to engage with a community in a meaningful and successful way? New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) is actively involved in supporting Public Art and New England's Creative Economy and is presenting a session on January 23d that will bring together artists, creative economy practitioners, and community participants. The result will be a discussion on strategies in community engagement at the Roxbury Center for the Arts at Hibernian Hall, 184 Dudley Street in Roxbury, MA 02119.
