About Me: The Friends of the Edward Everett Schoolyard are dedicated to preserving and expanding an urban oasis, in a densely populated area of Dorchester, for a population that is often estranged from the natural environment. Through a series of events, including our annual Fall Green & Clean Day and Spring Festival, we aim to educate and inspire this community, so that they can regain ownership of this greenspace, and work with us to enhance and maintain our schoolyard habitat. We believe that children who have a personal relationship with the natural world are less likely to engage in violent or destructive behavior, and will learn to, not only appreciate, but to become caretakers of that world.
Parents, teachers, staff, neighbors, alumni and friends are invited to join the Friends of the Edward Everett Schoolyard as we work to sustain the improvements that have been made, expand new areas of interest like the woodland garden on Jones Hill, replace the perimeter fence, and host events - like the annual Rock the Night fundraiser gala - that involve and welcome the greater community.
